Rev. Fr. Patrick Canavan, SVD was sent by the Divine Word Missionaries with the mission to open a government subsidized SVD sponsored secondary school. |
1970 |
Opening of Sing Yin Secondary School in Lam Tin, Kowloon, with Fr. Canavan as the Supervisor and Principal. Sing Yin Secondary School was founded with an enrolment of 370 F.1 and F.2 students. |
1971 |
Construction of school building completed. |
1974 |
First batch of 135 F.5 students graduated. |
1975 |
Students’ Association was established. |
1976 |
Female students were included in F.6 school admission. |
1977 |
First batch of 24 F.7 Science stream students graduated. |
1978 |
First batch of F.7 Arts stream students graduated. |
1980 |
An Alumni Association was established with Mr. Cheng Yim Poon as the Chairman. |
1990 |
Lady Wilson visited Sing Yin. |
1993 |
Retirement of Rev. Fr. Patrick Canavan. Rev. Fr. Brian Lawless became the Supervisor and Miss Wong Wai Yein the Principal. Adoption of the new school admission system and abolition of female admission. |
1995 |
Cardinal Wu, Cheng-Chung John Baptist came to Sing Yin to celebrate the Thanksgiving Mass. |
1997 |
Sing Yin was given the approval by the Education Department to continue using English as a medium of instruction. |
1998 |
One more Science class in F.4 was set up (3 Science classes and 2 Arts classes). Some Science subjects were included in the Arts stream while some Arts subjects were included in Science stream. |
1999 |
The Parent Teacher Association was established with Mr. Chan Chak Leung as the first Chairman. |
2001 |
Resignation of Miss Wong Wai Yein and Mr. Kwok But became the Principal. |
2002 |
Resignation of Rev. Fr. Brian Lawless; Rev. Fr. Emilio Lim became the Supervisor. |
2003 |
Canonization of St. Arnold Janssen and St. Joseph Freinademetz. Bishops Joseph Zen Ze Kiun, SDB, and John Tong Hon celebrated the Canonization Eucharist in Sing Yin with over 40 priests. One more Science class was set up in F.6 (2 Science classes and 1 Arts class). |
2004 |
There were 2 Science classes and 1 Arts Class in F.6 and F.7. There were 55 clubs and other organizations. |
